While I know that most people don’t want to think of a railway station in their home or office, Switzerland’s train stations are a different story. Today, I want to look at a brand-new wall clock released by Mondaine, along with two of its more recent SBB Swiss Railways wristwatches in the brand’s “Classic Collection.” The clock is the bigger story because it brings the look and feel of the railway station into your home or office. Now, the group includes the Mondaine brand, as well as Luminox. These “Swiss railways” watches are easily the most popular product produced by Mondaine, and the global popularity of these Bauhaus-style timepieces has made Mondaine a serious force to be reckoned with. I wait and see how they react!Įxpected much better than this clock manages on timekeeping, but happy with it's appearance.Since 1986, Swiss Mondaine has been producing wristwatch versions of the distinctive clock face design that you can find represented in each SBB (state railway) station in Switzerland. I've decided to keep the replacement and reset time every now and again, and have written a contact to Mondaine to complain wrt above. I know it's not easy to get perfectly accurate quartz mechanisms, yet far cheaper clocks I have manage to keep better time. It's not automatic daily adjust or anything, you do have to open the app yourself.įor the quality of look and feel of the clock, and the name and heritage of the timekeeping that goes with it, and it's price, you'd expect a far more superior time keeper that gained less than a second a day. So at least you don't have to take it off the wall to fiddly adjust, although you do have to set the time by taking action. You can of course adjust the time any time by opening the accompanying Mondaine app on your phone. OK, it looks great, admittedly the second hand doesn't 'sweep' like the official Swiss railways clocks, but it does pause satisfyingly on the minute. But for a Swiss branded time piece that costs the most I've ever spent on a clock, it's the worst timekeeper in my house! The Quartz mechanism in this clock is supposedly some kind of superior Mondaine version or something. This is despite trying a number of different manufacturers and ages of AA batteries. I returned my first one to Amazon as faulty - it was gaining 3 seconds a day! The replacement is not much better, but it's down to gaining about 2 seconds a day.
